ALTAIR Robotics Lab

ALTAIR Lab was founded in 2001 by computer science Professor Paolo Fiorini and currently hosts about 25 researchers.

ALTAIR Robotics Laboratory is an Italian excellence in the research and development of advanced robotic systems that can interact with the surrounding environment in multiple ways, from teleoperation to autonomous behaviors

The laboratory  has focused since the beginning on the areas of robotic surgery, human-robot interaction, service robotics for elderly and disabled care, search and rescue Robotics.

ALTAIR Robotics Laboratory has been awarded several EU and Italian grants including projects on robotic surgery, such as Accurobas, Safros, I-Sur, and Eurosurge and has developed over the years a wide knowledge in the field of robotic surgery.

The lab has recently concluded the I-Sur project demonstrating the feasibility of autonomous surgical actions. Due to ongoing collaboration with Caltech – California Institute of Technology, ALTAIR Lab will have access to the first dataset made available to researchers of clinical robotic surgeries and it will be able to demonstrate the feasibility of autonomous surgical procedures in realistic conditions.
